Manx Tomkinson was formed at the beginning of 2017 following a merger between Manx Carpets and Mr Tomkinson.
Manx Carpets
Manx Carpets was formed on the Isle of Man in the middle of the last century. It later transferred production to mainland UK and operated out of a factory in Blackburn, Lancashire. The company was acquired by Headlam plc in 2003.
Mr Tomkinson
The involvement of the Tomkinson family in carpet manufacture goes back to the mid-19th Century, when Mr Michael Tomkinson formed a business with the Adam family in Kidderminster – Tomkinson & Adam Ltd. Production began in 1869, and, by the late 1870s, they were producing woven Axminster carpet. This partnership continued until 1926, when the two families decided to end their relationship and branch out on their own, although still in carpet manufacturing. Four generations of the Tomkinson family worked in the business, the last link being Richard Pugh-Cook, who left in 1998 following its acquisition by another manufacturer, Gaskell plc. In March 2005, Gaskell plc entered Receivership and Mr Tomkinson was acquired by Headlam plc, Europe’s largest distributor of Floorcoverings.
Since the acquisition, Mr Tomkinson re-established itself as one of the leading suppliers of Residential carpet to the UK market. The company now sources product both from the UK and overseas to provide the consumer with the widest-possible choice of value for money, quality carpets, and, following the merger with Manx Carpets, the new company has extended its product line even further. Now with more ranges, more displays and more retailer partners, Manx Tomkinson really is a one-stop shop for all your carpet needs.
